In September 2013 we started our third DIY artwork for the upcoming release Marinconia.
The music has been worked in 3 phases during 3 summers: composition and concept in 2011, arrangements and recording in 2012, amplification, mixing and mastering in 2013.
We thought all the human senses should feel the same as the hearing one, so the packaging had to represent at the best the
music. Our idea has been to create a shell box in a net and put inside the booklet and the CD.
Shell box mold has been made of clay then wrapped in cellophane. Shell valves have been built on the mold with paper and glue, then darkened with water and coffee and scattered with sand.
When all the 25 shells were dry, we treated them with three layers of flatting, first one to paste the sand on the shell, last two to fix and refine it.
Boxes come with 4 Polaroids of marine landscapes, took in various South Italy places, to influence through the eyes the feeling of the opera.
A handmade crochet cord net completes and strings together the packaging.
Shells and respective nets are hand-numbered.
So we are definitively satisfied with our DIY sea-scented packaging which looks, sounds, smells, tastes and “touches” exactly how we would like.
Enjoy the photographic reportage.
